May 1 - The Beatles give their last live performance in Britain at the Empire Pool in Wembley.

July 31 - Radio stations in Birmingham, Alabama ban all Beatles music after Maureen Cleave's interview with John and his comments about Christianity is re-published in Datebook magazine.

August 8 - The South Aftican Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), in response to Maureen Cleave's infamous interview, bans all records composed or played by the Beatles.

August 12 - At the start of the Beatles' third American tour, John apologizes to the world for his statements in the Cleave interview.

August 29 - The bands last live performance is held at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, CA.

June 24 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is released. The album, the bands eighth, remains on the Billboard pop charts for 175 weeks and peaks at #1.

May 15 - John and Paul appear on the Tonight Show to announce the formation of Apple Corps., the Beatles' label.

July 1 - John's first art exhibition, dedicated to Yoko Ono and entitled You Are Here, opens at the Robert Faser Gallery in London.

August 22 - Cynthia Lennon sues John for divorce on the grounds of adultery with Yoko Ono.

Nobember 29 - John and Yoko release their first album together entitled Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins.

December 14 - The Beatles' tenth album, simply titled The Beatles, is released on Apple Records. Because of the stark colorless album cover, the album becomes known as "The White Album", peaking at #1 and remaining on the Billboard charts for 155 weeks.

January 30 - The Beatles perfom live on the roof of the Apple building in Savile Row. The recordings become known as the legenday "Rooftop Sessions".

February 8 - The soundtrack album Yellow Submarine is released on Apple Records, peaking at #2 and remaining on the charts for 25 weeks.

March 20 - John and Yoko are married by Registrar Cecil Wheeler in the British Consulate building.

March 25-31 - Amsterdam bed-in for peace. John and Yoko remain in Room 902 of the Amsterdam Hilton hotel for seven days giving hundreds of interviews promoting peace.

September 12 - John forms the Plastic Ono Band with musicians Eric Clapton, Klaus Yoormann, Alan White and Yoko Ono for a Rock N' Roll revival concert in Toronto.

October 18 - The Beatles' twelth album, Abbey Road is released on Apple Records. The album contains the last recordings made by the band. It remains on the pop charts for 129 weeks, peaking at # 1

November 7 - John and Yoko release their third album, Wedding Album, released on Apple Records.

November 25 - John returns his M.B.E. medal to Buckingham Palace "in protest" of several of Britain's international involvements.

December 14 - The Plastic Ono Band - Live Peace In Toronto 1969 is released on Apple Records.

May 30 - Final Beatles album is released on Apple Records entitled Let It Be. Ten Days later, Paul McCartney announces his resignation from the Beatles.

December 11 - John's first solo album is released, entitled Plastic Ono Band. The album remains on the pop charts for 32 weeks and peaks at # 10.

September 18 - John's solo album Imagine is released on Apple Records. The album peaks at #1 and remains on the pop charts for 45 weeks.

March 16 - John and Yoko are served with deportation orders after their visas expire. This marks the beginning of the couple's four-year battle against deportation.

May 11 - John appears on the Dick Cavett Show and claims he is being followed by government agents and his phones are tapped.

July 1 - Some Time In New York City is released on Apple Records.

March 23 - John is ordered to leave the US within sixty days, while Yoko is granted permission to remain as a permanent resident. The enxt day, John formally appeals the deportation order.

October - John and Yoko separate after 4 and 1/2 years of marriage. John moves to Los Angeles.

November 24 - John's next solo album Mind Games is released. The album remained on the pop charts for 31 weeks and peaked at # 9.

August 31 - Appealing his latest deportation order in court, John claims that the Nixon administration tried to have him deported not because of the 1968 London drug charges but because they believe he was one of the organizers of a possible anti-war demonstration held at the Republican Convention in 1972.

October 12 - Walls and Bridges, John's fifth solo album is released. The album peaks at #1 and remains on the pop charts for 35 weeks.

November 28 - John performs live on stage during Elton John's Thanksgiving Day concert at Madison Square Garden. The duo perform John's #1 hit single "Whatever Gets You Through the Day", which Elton John had accompanied him on.

January - John returns to New York City and reunites with Yoko. She is soon pregnant.

January - John accompanies David Bowie in the studio on the Bowie recording of John's song "Across the Universe". During these sessions, the two also collaborated on the new song "Fame".

March 8 - Rock N' Roll is released on Apple Records. The album remains on the pop charts for 15 weeks, peaking at #6.

June 13 - John's last live performance before an audience is a televised special entitled Saltue to Lew Grade. John appears with a "two-faced" band performing "Imagine" and "Slippin' and Slidin'".

June 19 - John sues former Attorney General John Mitchell and other US law officers for "improper selective and prosecution" arising from the deportation attempt.

October 7 - The US Supreme Court votes by a two to one decision to reverse the deportation order, instructing the Immigration Service to re-consider John's request for resident status.

October 9 - Yoko gives birth to Sean Taro Ono Lennon at New Yok Hospital.

April 1 - John's father, Fred Lennon, dies in England.

November 8 - Shaved Fish, John's last studio album for the next 5 years, is released on Apple Records.

February 6 - John's recording contract with EMI expires. In nearly 15 years, John is not tied to a recording contract.
