Composer, conductor, singer, guitarist, Eddy Howard was born in Woodland California on September 12, 1914. After graduating from San Jose State College, Howard attended Stanford University medical school. He began his singing career as the featured vocalist with the Dick Jurgens dance band in 1934 and turned solo in 1940.
With his relaxed and intimate style, Howard had nearly 50 hit recordings including the top twenty hits ‘To Each His Own’ (#1, 1946), ‘The Rickety Rickshaw Man’ (#6, 1946), ‘(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons’ (#2,1947), ‘My Adobe Hacienda’ (#2, 1947), ‘I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder’ (#2, 1947), ‘Kate (Have I Come Too Early Too Late)’ (#7, 1947), ‘An Apple Blossom Wedding’ (#9, 1947), ‘Now is the Hour’ (#8, 1948), ‘On a Slow Boat to China’ (#6, 1948), ‘Room Full of Roses’ (#4, 1949), ‘Sin (It’s No Sin)’ (#1, 1951) and ‘Auf Widerseh’n, Sweetheart’ (#4, 1952).
Howard also achieved success on the NBC radio show Caron of Cheer.
Eddy Howard died in Palm Beach, California on May 23, 1963.
